How did Assyria become an empire?

Assyria as a state existed from the 24th century BC, but the period of the empire was only the latest, between 750 and 620 BC. Assyria became the first empire in history and united two centers of culture of the Middle East – Mesopotamia and partially (as a vassal) – Egypt. The empire was created through conquest, and in wars they had an advantage thanks to the large army, cavalry and widespread use of iron.
