How did German-Soviet relations develop in 1939-1940?

In general, German-Soviet relations during this period were characterized by relative sympathy for each other. In 1939, on August 24, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed, in fact it was a non-aggression pact for 10 years. Also, this treaty dealt with the division of the spheres of influence of the USSR and Germany in Europe. At the time, no one would have said that in two years the bloodiest conflict in human history would break out between them. Some historians say that Hitler had no choice, even though Germany was not completely ready to fight against such a powerful enemy as the USSR.
