How did Hammurabi get kingship?

Power passed to him by inheritance from his father – Sin-Muballit, who ruled from 1813 to 1793 BC. We can say that Hammurabi was the first ruler from whom royal records have survived. The Babylonian king himself was one of the most powerful rulers of the Babylonian kingdom. He called himself “the storm of the four cardinal points.” He was also the first to create a written code of laws called the Hammurabi Code.
