How did medieval peasants differ from Roman slaves? why did they not treat their work in the same way?

Slaves in ancient Rome and peasants in the Middle Ages were very different from each other. So the Roman slave was deprived of his freedom, he was the thing of his master, who could sell him or kill him. The slave did only the work that was ordered to him. The slaves themselves did not have their own property. In the Middle Ages, the peasants were not so dependent on their feudal lords and did what they wanted. They also had their own property and the opportunity to start a family.
