How did monks earn their living in the Middle Ages?

In the Middle Ages, monks lived well enough. They made good money, and there were several sources of their income at once. Monks who served in the church often earned money by receiving tributes from the state. They also collected money from parishioners, because the peasants had to pay a tenth of their income for church needs. In addition, they were involved in many scams and if they did not rob directly, then they did so that the peasants themselves gave them significant funds.
