How did the ancient Indians worship their gods?

The ancient Hindus were supporters of polytheism, that is, they worshiped many gods, who were endowed with the same qualities that are inherent in mere mortals. It was obligatory to regularly visit the temples, which were erected for each god separately. In addition, altars were erected in each house with figurines of the gods that are worshiped in this house. During prayers, a prerequisite was to decorate the altar, as well as put sweets on it. According to tradition, this was done in order to appease the gods.
