How did the Bolsheviks organize the defense of Soviet power during the Civil War?

The Bolsheviks needed to defend the authorities in the capital from the supporters of the white movement. During the Civil War, initially the initiative belonged to the White movement. But to achieve success, the Bolsheviks mobilized the population. They carried out active propaganda, and in some cases used inhumane ways to achieve the goal.
