How did the dependent peasant differ from the serf?

The serfs were attached to the land that belonged to the landowner. They could not get away from her. At the same time, the feudal lord protected his peasants from death in the event of hostilities. In fact, these people were the property of the owner, although by law he did not have the right to kill them. Some serfs did not have allotments at all, they were called servos. Such people worked only on the landowner’s allotments.
Dependent peasants rented land from a landowner, and for this they had to give 40% of their harvest.
