How did the election of consuls in Rome take place?

In Rome in the era of the Republic, there were several higher positions (magistracy). Masters could be natives of the nobility (patrician and plebeian families), who had great wealth and power. If a man from such a family wanted to make a political career, then he had to start from low positions, and by the age of 40 he could already run for the post of consul. The consuls were elected at the military meeting of the centuri, of which there were 193, and the winner was the one for whom at least 97 of them cast their votes.
