How did the Greeks travel and develop the territory of the Balkan Peninsula?

The Greeks traveled both by land and by sea. Initially, the centers of their civilization were on the island of Crete and in the south of the Balkan Peninsula (Morea region).

On land they moved on foot, there was a mountainous area.

More often the Greeks moved to new lands and colonized them by sea, because they had developed shipbuilding. From Athens, they could sail along the Aegean Sea along the eastern shores of the Balkan Peninsula and across the Ionian Sea to its western coast (they settled on the islands of Kerkyra and Zarinf).
