How did the intelligentsia feel about increasing censorship?

The intelligentsia reacted sharply negatively to the strengthening of censorship. They accused Emperor Nicholas 1 of immorality, because the police printed letters of a family nature (letters from a husband to his wife) and read them to the emperor, who was not at all shy about it. In addition, it was forbidden to talk about the Decembrist uprising. The intelligentsia responded to the strengthening of censorship by creating various social movements (circles of Slavophiles, Westernizers, socialists).
