How did the location of the Greek colonies differ from the Roman ones?

The Greek colonies were separate settlements that eventually turned into trading cities. They were mainly located on the shores of the seas. Roman colonies were very few in number. The ancient Romans founded them along rivers or on the shores of the sea. In addition, the Roman colonies were located within Italy itself. It was the Greeks who left their native lands and went to distant lands, where they founded new cities, while the Romans were mainly engaged in conquests.
