How did the Macedonian phalanx differ from the organization of the army in other policies?

In the days of ancient Greece, the Greeks often used phalanx construction during the war. This formation had a depth of 9 rows. In the 4th century BC, the Macedonian king Philip 2 created the Macedonian version of the phalanx. Now the depth of the phalanx formation had 16 rows. The weaponry of the phalangites has also changed. The pikiners (Macedonian phalangits) were armed with a small round shield and a long six-meter spear – a sarissa.
