How did the Phoenicians contribute to other civilizations?
The Phoenicians lived mainly on the territory of modern Lebanon; the period of the flourishing of their civilization can be considered the first half of the 1st millennium BC. Their contribution to world culture is as follows:
The Phoenicians were the first to come up with the alphabet; before them, other civilizations either did not have a writing system or used hieroglyphs and cuneiform writing.
They discovered a way to make purple fabrics, which were used by noble people because of the high price, and also learned how to make glass.
They were the first to make long sea voyages, long before the ancient Greeks they were able to get from Lebanon to the southern coast of Spain (Hades on the Atlantic coast). They were the first to create colonies (Carthage, for example).
The Phoenicians created merchant and warships that were advanced for their time. Actually, it was the first “sea civilization”, followed by the Greeks, Romans, Arabs and various Europeans, for example, the British and Dutch (XVII century).
Probably by agreement of the Egyptian pharaoh Necho II, they circled Africa in 600 BC.
