How did the states in the East regulate the life of their subjects?

Historians often call ancient and medieval eastern states “despotic”. Whenever possible, the rulers actually completely controlled the lives of their subjects. For this, religion was often used – Islam, with its strict prohibitions and canons. A certain ethical and moral “conservation” of spiritual life was created. In addition, the sovereign was the owner, and his subjects were only the owners of the land, which made the latter dependent on the king. Demonstration and indiscriminate executions were also practiced.
