How did the Viking campaigns affect the life of neighboring countries? Give three examples.

In France, the raids of the Vikings led to the fact that the king had to invite one of them, Rollon, with an army to defend the country, promising him power and land in the north of the country. The Vikings agreed, and soon the inhabitants of northern France began to be called Normans – in honor of the territory of Normandy in which they lived.

In England, skirmishes with Vikings and the burning of monasteries continued until the death of the Viking leader, Ragnar Lothbrok, in the prison of the King of Northumbria. After that, his sons landed with a huge army and captured the entire north of England and part of Ireland, which they ruled until the 11th century.

In Russia, the Vikings appeared at the invitation of the East Slavic tribes. Their leader, Rurik, later became the prince of Kievan Rus, and his subsequent family spread to all the surrounding lands, becoming offshoots of one large Rurik family.
