How did their neighborhood with nomads affect the life of the Eastern Slavs?

The Slavs lived a sedentary way of life, their constant neighbors were nomads (Pechenegs, Polovtsians, Bulgars, etc.). The nomads, on the other hand, did not have a developed economy, and therefore, they often made constant raids on the southern Slavic lands. Over time, a number of defensive structures arose here on the border, which were “Serpent Shafts”. True, the constant raids of nomads became the reason that the borders were pushed further and further to the west, as well as the fact that in the regions of southern Russia the population was falling.
