Gorbachev’s coming to power in the USSR led to the rejection of confrontation with the United States and the course towards peaceful coexistence of capitalist and socialist countries. A great success in this direction was the signing of the nuclear arms reduction treaty. The collapse of the Soviet Union and Yeltsin’s coming to power, despite the negative consequences for the Russian economy, significantly increased trade and cultural exchanges with the United States, led to the strengthening of partnerships between the countries.
