How do amino acids change in the liver?

The liver is the main organ for the “processing” of incoming amino acids from food. Some of the amino acids remain unchanged, the other part undergoes transformations into nonessential amino acids (needed by the body). The third part of amino acids undergoes decomposition into keto acids and ammonia, which in turn turns into a less dangerous substance – urea.
