How do the Samoyeds differ from the Sikhirta?

Samoyedians are the common name for the small peoples of the European North and North-Western Siberia – the Entsy, Nenets, Selkups, Tavgians. Many centuries ago, the samoyed peoples separated from their ancestors, the Finno-Ugrians, settled in the upper reaches of the Ob and Yenisei rivers.

The basis of the economy was hunting and fishing, and later reindeer husbandry, and this is associated with their traditionally nomadic way of life.

Sikhirta is an ancient extinct people of the Arctic. They fed on hunting and fishing. They lived in earthen caves. The reason for the departure of the Sikhirtans underground is the invasion of reindeer herders – nomads who came to Yamal. They had a high level of culture in comparison with other peoples of the North: they used earthenware and bronze dishes, they knew how to mine and process silver.
