How do the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions interact?

The parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions are usually antagonistic. Most organs are innervated by both departments. For example, heart rate control: parasympathetic stimulation slows down the heart rate, while sympathetic stimulation increases the heart rate.

Parasympathetic stimulation causes constriction of the pupil caused by stimulation of the circular muscle layer in the iris. Sympathetic stimulation causes pupil dilation caused by stimulation of the radial muscle layer in the iris.
