How does a butterfly develop?

The butterfly goes through four stages of development. First, caterpillars hatch from eggs laid by a butterfly. They grow and feed. When caterpillars reach a certain size, they begin to build cocoons, in which the caterpillars pass the pupal stage. During this time, wings and antennae are formed. When this stage is completed, the butterfly crawls out of the cocoon.
