How does a dry cell work?

A dry galvanic cell contains a zinc vessel (Zn), inside which there is a carbon rod (C), placed in a mixture of manganese (IV) oxide (MnO2) and carbon, between them there is a jelly-like salt solution (NH4CI). During the chemical reaction of zinc with ammonium chloride, the zinc vessel is charged negatively and the rod positively.
