How does a volcanic eruption take place?

It is so hot deep inside the Earth that some rocks are slowly melting and becoming magma. Because it is lighter than the solid rock around it, magma rises and collects in magma chambers. Eventually, magma is pushed through holes and cracks in the Earth’s surface. The magma that has erupted is called lava.
Some volcanic eruptions are explosive, while others are not. It depends on how liquid or sticky the magma is. If magma is thin and liquid, gases can easily escape from it.
