How does a waterfall form?

A waterfall is a cascading stream of river water from a high steep cliff or slope that crosses the river bed, forming a sharp drop in height, while the height of the fall should exceed one meter (everything that is less is ledges and rapids). Waterfalls are formed in mountainous areas, where the river carries its waters over different rocks.
