How does fish care for offspring manifest?

Caring for offspring in fish often does not manifest itself in any way – such species usually spawn a relatively large amount of eggs. But some species take care of the offspring. The males of some fish build a nest. This behavior can be observed even in aquarium fish belonging to the suborder Labyrinth, such as gourami, cockerels and others. In nature, such fish include three-spined stickleback, the male not only builds, but also protects the nest with eggs laid in it.

Some fish hide eggs and fry in the mouth in case of danger. In an aquarium, this behavior can be observed in cichlids.

There are fish whose fry hide inside the body – the male seahorses have a special pocket for this.

It is quite typical for fish that the male often takes care of the offspring.
