Modernism manifested itself in the late 19th – early 20th century. It replaced realism. Realists tried to present life in their works as believable as possible. They gave a lot of attention to social relationships. Modernism tried to convey a new attitude that arose at the turn of the century. New discoveries in the fields of science and philosophy influenced the aesthetics of modernism.
