How does mucor multiply?

Vegetative propagation of mucor occurs by fragmentation of the hyphae. Asexual reproduction occurs through the formation of asexual spores, such as sporangiospores, chlamydiospores, oidia.

Mucor predominantly reproduces asexually with the formation of sporangiospores. Sporangiospores are produced within the sporangium at the tip of the sporangiophore. In a favorable state, sporangiospores are formed. In a favorable state, the nitrate hyphae develops a straight hypha, and the accumulation of more nuclei and cytoplasm occurs at the tip of the straight hypha. The tip of the straight hyphae swells and a young sporangium is formed. Then the differentiation of the cytoplasm occurs. Cleavage occurs in the sporoplasm, which separates a larger mass of cytoplasm with several nuclei than around it, and wall formation occurs, resulting in the formation of many thin-walled multinucleated spores called sporangiospores.
