How does pollination and fertilization occur in a pine?

In the spring, the scales in the cone move apart and its ovules are preparing to receive pollen. A large amount of pollen, which is blown by the wind, falls into the gaps between the scales of the cone and lingers there. The micropyle begins to secrete a “pollination liquid” that appears at the top in the form of drops. The pollen grains are moistened with the pollination liquid, completely immersed in it. After the pollen grains get inside and reach the top of the megasporangium, it is there that they begin to germinate.
