The population of India is mainly Hindu and Buddhist. The influence of these religions on agriculture is reflected in the fact that, preaching partial or complete vegetarianism, they lead to a limited use of certain foods, primarily of animal origin, and also endow the symbolic meaning of livestock, especially cows that are considered sacred. If Hindus do not eat meat at all, then for Buddhists the taboo extends only to the use of beef for food.
