How does the addiction to tobacco and other narcotic substances develop?

Addiction to nicotine, cannabinoids and other drugs develops in a very similar way. Substances, entering the bloodstream, pass into the brain. There they attach to receptors, thus causing the release of serotonin, oxytocin – this improves mood, excites, the effect of the drug develops. But then the substances leave the receptors, serotonin is removed from the blood and the general condition of the person becomes the same. But after a cheerful drug intoxication it seems to him too “dull”. And the receptors again need nicotine or cannabinoids. A person who is addicted to drugs can no longer independently produce oxytocin and serotonin for other pleasant things – a smile of a child, a purr of a cat, an embrace of a loved one. To obtain serotonin, he needs more and more doses of nicotine or drugs, as the receptors gradually get used and require more and more exposure.
