How does the relief affect the distribution of the population?

Plains (up to 500 m above sea level) are the most populated, although they occupy only 28% of the Earth’s land. Mountainous areas are less populated (exceptions: Mexico, Peru, Ethiopia, etc.), where most of the population lives at an altitude of <1000 m above sea level. People prefer the plains more than the mountains, as the former are more accessible. Also, the proximity of a large reservoir is important for a person to meet his various needs (not only material, but also spiritual).
