How does the water cycle work?

The water cycle describes the existence and movement of water on Earth and over the Earth. The water of the Earth is always in motion and always changes states, from liquid to vapor, or to ice and back.

Where does all the water on Earth come from? The original Earth was an incandescent lamp made of magma, but magma contains water. The water freed from the magma began to cool the Earth’s atmosphere, and eventually the environment became cold enough that the water could remain on the surface as a liquid.
