How is the bay different from the strait?

Bays and straits are parts of large bodies of water such as lakes, seas and oceans. Bays are the part of the body of water that has a large depression towards the land and is surrounded on three sides by the coastline. Shallow bays are called bays, estuaries, fjords, etc. Straits are those parts of water that lie between two parts of land, such as a mainland and an island, two different islands, etc. An example is the Strait of Mozambique, which runs between the mainland of Africa and the island of Madagascar.
