How is the desert different from the steppe?

It is much hotter in the desert than in the steppes. In the desert, the surface heats up to + 70C, and the air temperature rises above + 40C. But the nights are cool, as the sand and clay thaw quickly. In the steppe, the air temperature in summer almost also reaches + 40C, but does not rise higher. Both in the desert and in the steppes, warm winds blow, which can turn into dust storms.
There is practically no precipitation in the desert, but it rarely rains in the steppes.
Winter in the desert is very cold but short. The temperature in January is about -10C. There is almost no snow either. In the steppes, winters are slightly longer, but also cold.
The temperature drops to -40C.
