How is the excretory system of flatworms different from the excretory system of the earthworm?

The excretory system of the earthworm plays two different roles: removing harmful products and waste from its body and regulating the composition of the coelomic fluid (water, ions, dissolved organic matter). Each segment of the body has an excretory organ, consisting of a pair of metanephridia. Metanephridia consists of open tubules at both ends.

Flatworms have an excretory device, but no respiratory and circulatory apparatus, exchanges are carried out by diffusion through the skin.
