How long is the Reconquista?

The Reconquista lasted 770 years and became one of the longest military conflicts in the Middle Ages, although it went on intermittently. The scene of action was the Iberian Peninsula, that is, the territory of modern Spain and France. At the beginning of the VIII century, they were occupied by the Arabs (the Arab Caliphate), defeated the kingdom of the Visigoths, but in 712-722 the aristocrat Pelayo began to fight them in the Asturias region in the north of modern Spain. He soon became her king. In 732, the Arabs were defeated in France at Poitiers, and at the beginning of the 9th century, with the help of Charlemagne, the County of Barcelona appeared. During the struggle against the Arabs, the kingdoms of Leon, Aragon and Castile appeared on the Iberian Peninsula (they became the Kingdom of Spain by the end of the 15th century), as well as the County of Portugal (from 1139 it became a kingdom).
