How many centuries have passed from the Arab invasion of the Iberian Peninsula to its liberation from the conquerors?

The troops of the Arab Caliphate landed on European territory at the beginning of the 8th century AD. In 710, the Muslims defeated the Christian army at the Battle of Jerez at the southwestern tip of Europe and occupied the Iberian Peninsula. By 732, the Arabs had crossed the Pyrenees and reached the town of Poitiers in central France. Only there they were stopped by the troops of Karl Martell. From this date, the countdown of the Reconquista – the period of the liberation of Europe from Arab rule, begins. The reconquista lasted for about eight centuries and ended with the expulsion of the Arabs from the Iberian Peninsula in 1492. Six months later, Columbus’s expedition reached America. A new era in European history began.
