How many chromosomes are there in a potato?

Different types of plants and animals have different numbers of chromosomes. Their number does not indicate evolutionary or any other superiority. A person has 46 chromosomes. A potato has two more chromosomes than we do – 48. The chromosomes themselves are complexly packed chains of DNA. This reduces the chance of damage or alteration of structures during their transfer or under the influence of various factors. In humans, during reproduction, 23 chromosomes are transmitted to offspring from the paternal and the same amount from the maternal organism.
