How many chromosomes does a person have?

The human genome contains all hereditary material and it is located in the human cell. There are 23 chromosome pairs or 46 chromosomes in the human genome. Out of 23 pairs: 22 pairs are autosomal chromosomes, and 1 pair are sex X and Y chromosomes. A normal diploid somatic cell contains 46 chromosomes.
