How many climatic zones are there in South America?

Five different climatic zones exist on the continent of South America. The first zone is the equatorial zone, which is located in the northern part of the continent, in the Amazon basin. From the north and south, the equatorial zone is surrounded by a subequatorial belt. In a more southerly direction, in particular in the Brazilian Highlands, there is a tropical belt. Further south, the subtropical zone already begins. In the extreme south of the continent, near the Strait of Magellan, there is a temperate climatic zone.
