How many times will the area of the rectangle increase if each side is increased by 7 times?

We know that to find the area of a rectangle we need to: multiply the width by the length of the rectangle. Let us denote by the letter a – the width of the rectangle, and let the length of the rectangle be the letter – b. The area in mathematics is denoted by the capital Latin letter S. We get the formula S1 = a • b. If each side of the rectangle is increased by 7 times, then we get the formula: S2 = 7a • 7b. S1 / S2 = ab / 49ab. Hence S2 = 49S1, that is, the area of the rectangle will increase 49 times.
Answer: the area will increase 49 times.
