How many vertebrae are there in the lumbar spine?

All vertebrae are divided into categories. There are five vertebrae in the lumbar spine. The upper end of the lumbar vertebrae is attached to the last thoracic vertebra, and the lower to the first sacral vertebra. The counting of the lumbar vertebrae starts from 20 to 24, if you count from top to bottom. These five vertebrae have a bend – lordosis. The lumbar spine has the greatest load, so the vertebrae are the largest here. And strong muscles of the lower back help to carry out a wide variety of body movements, even with additional stress.
