1. For 70 years G.Kh. Andersen wrote a large number of works. Fairy tales brought him popularity – at the moment the most complete list includes 184 fairy tales. Andersen also wrote 20 plays, 5 novels, a large number of poems and essays.

2. Andersen was the only child in the family of a poor shoemaker and laundress. The father died when the boy was 11 years old, and at the age of 14 he left his home. After that, he lived all his life alone: ​​he did not have a family and children.

3. Andersen hardly received his primary education and until the end of his life he wrote with mistakes: at first the future writer went to a regular school, but he was afraid of physical punishment and he was sent to a charity school for the poor, where physical punishment was not applied. At the age of 14, he left for Copenhagen, where he was admitted to the Royal Theater out of pity. At the request of people who were not indifferent to his fate, he received permission from the Danish king Frederick VI to study at the expense of the treasury in two schools (first in the city of Slagels, then in Elsinore). At 22, he graduated from high school and never studied anywhere else.
