CaCO3 = CaO + CO2.
The stoichiometric coefficients in this reaction are equal to unity. Thus, it is known that from 100 g of calcium carbonate (1 mol), 56 g of calcium oxide (1 mol) are formed. This can be verified by the formula m = n * Mr.
We denote the mass of calcium carbonate, which is required to obtain 224 g of calcium oxide, by x and compose the proportion:
x g – 224 g
100 g – 56 g.
From here we find that x = 224 * 100/56 = 400 g.
