How much kerosene burns when 4 liters of water is heated from 20 degrees to a boil?

Given: V (volume of water) = 4 l (in SI V = 4 * 10-3 m3); t0 (initial temperature) = 20 ºС.

Constants: qk (beats heat of combustion of kerosene) = 4.6 * 10 ^ 7 J / kg; ρw (density of heated water) = 1000 kg / m3; tboil (boiling point) = 100 ºС; Sv (specific heat of water) = 4200 J / (kg * K).

We express the mass of burnt kerosene from the equality: qk * m1 = Sv * ρw * V * (tboil – t0); m1 = Sv * ρw * V * (tboil – t0) / qk.

Calculation: m1 = 4200 * 1000 * 4 * 10-3 * (100 – 20) / (4.6 * 10 ^ 7) = 0.0292 kg (29.2 g).
