We know from the history of antiquity that the largest and most influential in Greece were such Greek cities as Athens and Sparta. So they very often competed among themselves. Athens considered itself the most prestigious and developed city, while Sparta was very proud and warlike. This rivalry once turned into the Peloponnesian War, which was unleashed in 431 BC.
