How the growth of the needs of the nobility affected the position and life of serfs at the end of the 18th century.

At the end of the 18th century, the peasants were virtually disenfranchised. This was the main result of the existence of unlimited rights of the nobility. They did not have freedoms, property rights to land, although they also worked it. They could not complain about the cruel treatment of the landowners, they could not marry without the landowner’s permission. The situation could only be changed by the coming of Paul 1 to power, which took away many liberties from the nobility, allowed the peasants to appeal against the actions of the nobles, and the ban for peasants to marry was also lifted.
