How to find the length of segments, if their sum and ratio are known For example AO / OC, as 2: 3. AO + OC = 25cm
September 29, 2021 | education
| Let’s solve a system of two equations.
AO / OC = 2/3.
AO + OC = 25 cm.
3 * AO = 2 * OC. (1)
AO = 25 – OC. (2)
Substitute Equation 2 into Equation 1.
3 * (25 – OC) = 2 * OC.
75 – 3 * OC = 2 * OC.
5 * OC = 75.
OS = 75/5 = 15 cm.
Then AO = 25 – 15 = 10 cm.
Answer: The length of the segment AO is 10 cm, the length of the segment OC is 15 cm.
