How to find the sides of a rectangle ABCD. S = 48 cm2, AB is three times less than BC.

A rectangle is a quadrangle in which opposite sides are equal and all corners are right.

The area of a rectangle is equal to the product of its length and width:

S = AB · BC.

Since the width AB is three times less than the length of the BC, then we express:

x is the length of the side AB;

3x – the length of the aircraft side;

x 3x = 48;

3x ^ 2 = 48;

x ^ 2 = 48/3 = 16;

x = √16 = 4 cm.

AB = 4 cm;

BC = 3 * 4 = 12 cm.

Answer: side AB is 4 cm, side BC is 12 cm.
